In case you visit Progreso, Yucatan expecting only a beach…

Merida has been growing as a destination for congresses, social events and more. Once in the city you’d be confronted by the lack of time to fully appreciate it.

When the event, that led you to the “White City”, is over you are free to explore and take advantage of your remaining hours in the Peninsula. So you ask at the hotel’s frontdesk for a quick recommendation.

The conversation goes something like this…

Have you been to downtown? - Says the first guy. - Do you already know the Paseo Montejo and the Flag Monument? - Says the other, - then a light beam covers the first guy...  Did you already go to the beach?... Progreso has convinced you!

You get up early to seize the day. When you get there, a beach with clear sand and calm water is waiting for you, the sea breeze gives you the peace you were looking for. So you enjoy a charming walk and the Yucatecan cuisine, there is no doubt it was a great choice.

When it’s time to come back to Merida, huge birds that look naked, cross the sky very close to you. After a little asking a local confirms that you have not gone crazy... yeah! flamingos! and they come from the "Ria de Progreso" (a river), which also offers boat tours, kayaking, etc.

A bit disappointed, you head to the airport. But just outside Progreso you find an ad of a place a few kilometers from the beach you were, with beautiful cenotes between mangroves and a curious name "El Corchito"... sorry to tell, you've also missed it.

Now that you know about these places, questions are: Will you come back? Will you let others meet your same luck? Did you already share this website?
