Loltun means "Stone Flower" in Mayan.

Currently Loltun caves are the archaeological site with the widest chronological sequence in the north of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Evidence shows the early presence of man in the Yucatan Peninsula, around the year 9,000 B.C., and continue with the domestication of plants and animals and subsequently incorporating architecture and sculpture.
Chronology: 9000. C. to 1500 d. C.
Main chronological location: Late Preclassic, 400. C. 200 d. C.

Nearby villages where you can eat and find lodging: Oxkutzcab, Akil, Muna, Tekax, and Ticul.
